It is said that Martin Luther King Jr. spoke these words at the conclusion of his 1963 sermon, "The Drum Major Instinct," which he delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. He was using this quote to emphasize that love must be on the forefront of everything that we do for humanity to survive and thrive. It is also said, however, that King used it to express his frustration with the country's racism, which he believed had ruined the nation's soul.
